For years I sat in a cubicle, grinding out the life I thought I was supposed to lead. I was completely unfulfilled. In social situations when people asked what I did for a living, my response was, "I hate my job."I was embarrassed at what I did for a living, but worse, I was embarrassed that I was unhappy with it. I now know that this feeling is created by "social yardsticks." Now that I am now living the life of my dreams, I see how important the information in this book will be for others. I only wish this book would have been written in the early 90s, so I could have used it as a tool for my own journey. The author takes you through the process of change via three phases: recognition, redefinition, and re-engagement.Reading this book felt like I was at a seminar (in a good way). The information about why you might feel the way you do, along with self assessments at each stage, guide you along. If you are serious about change, you will read this book.

I've been working on changing my career track, and there are a TON of HR and career experts that try to appeal to readers. Whether it's online info or a book like this, the "helpful" hints tend to either fall too much into the "go get 'em!" self-help category, or they're written in a dry, academic voice - great for insiders and industry people, but hard to absorb for the rest of us.This book mixes those approaches really well, and gives a clear A to Z path to both increase confidence and understand where you've been on your career path - which helps us to get where we're GOING.Can't recommend this enough, especially if you've been in a job search and have been spinning your wheels for a while, or have felt overwhelmed or confused about what comes next.

I’m not alone! I can finally admit that my inner critic “imposter syndrome” has been a real challenge –that horrid toe-curling feeling that I’m moving up the ladder but someone’s going to find out I’m faking it and I’m not competent. This book is an easy read, moves quickly and keeps me turning the page to answer the next series of questions. It’s a journey of discovery based on real evidence through the eyes of an amazing career coach. For me, this is more of a self-reflective process that’s probably different for everyone. What I particularly like is the reassuring feeling that I now have a personal career coach guiding me.If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work with a great career coach, read this book.

I invite you to read Susan Peppercorn’s new book. Built on years of experience with clients, she shares her personal and professional “aha’s” to guide readers who are working to achieve their professional goals while maintaining their personal integrity.Easy to read and filled with lots of ways to self-examine, this book will help you to recognize and explore your own values and beliefs regarding happiness and how it relates to your job choices. She introduces lots of tools backed up by rigorous research as well as her own experience as a career coach. She incorporates a continuum of choices for those for those who seek to understand and act on their dissatisfaction but who may not be ready to take a big leap from current to totally different paths. Filled with lots of examples, no doubt with several that will hit home for most readers, the book provides comfort to those who think they are all alone in their feelings and experiences, and encouragement to take the steps suggested to move forward. The takeaways are that happiness and job satisfaction will fluctuate over a career. Job satisfaction requires flexibility and re-calibration along the way and should not be externally driven or defined (although tuning in to those external resources may help). This book can help you understand the drivers of your own happiness. By recognizing and taking ownership for your future and by committing to putting in the effort to achieve job satisfaction, it can be attained. Reading this book will help you through this adventure.

I've read a LOT of career books, and I really love this one. I think a lot of other career books fall short in creating real change because they don't address the inner game that keeps us stuck year after year. This one starts with the idea that in order to change your future, you have to change your thought patterns (and the author gives really helpful exercises for how to do that). Only THEN you can change your career ideas, your resume, and your job search game plan (and I loved her exercises for how to do these things, too). It's a comprehensive career & job search roadmap that's research-based and really engaging. Super helpful and highly recommended.

Susan has written not only an extremely comprehensive book to help you Ditch Your Inner Critic At Work, she has provided you all the right questions to ask to see where you are in the process. I haven't found anything in the market which can compare. Throughout the book, she provides you with the questions, assessments, and immediate results. Along with the results, Susan has provided your next action steps. No matter what book you have read in the past on the topic Ditch Your Inner Critic At Work will provide with the tools to know where you are in your career journey.
