This dictionary is not worth carrying the Merriam-Webster name. Checking based on Radical Index, you can't even find zhe4, which corresponds to "this" in English. You call this a dictionary? You supply this to students?

I think this is good for those who are not Chinese but want to learn Chinese. A good pocket size easy to carry. I'm a Chinese I'm looking for an English - Chinese Dictionary so this doesn't fit my needs.

It has too many mistakes on Chinese Pinyin also don’t have enough words for elementary school kids. Not recommend.

I teach ESL for Chinese students and this is very handy. They have pointed out some grammatical errors, and of course not ALL words are in this dictionary, but it is a helpful tool in the classroom for quick referencing.

Simple. There's a chinese to english side and a english to chinese side. Reads like a concise dictionary. Quickly gives you basic translation of a word to a character and vice versa. English to chinese side has the pinyin

I bought this book in 2011 when it first came out, and it is a jewel. Christian Prince (CP) is a true Christian hero and feared among Muslims throughout the world.There really is no one quite like CP and this book is unique. The fact is, CP can read Arabic and therefore has an advantage over all other authors when it comes to explaining and exposing what true Islam is. CP is an Arab Christian who is from the Middle East and actually earned a degree in Islamic Law and served as a Judge. This book is an excellent resource that will help any Christian understand Islam and help equip them to defend the faith.The one knock I will say is that the grammar and english in this book is not perfect; there are many grammatical mistakes. However, english is not Christian Prince's first language, and the mistakes he makes do not compromise his message; the book is easily understood. I would advise CP tp invest in an english editor who can help him correct his grammatical errors. All this being said, his book is light years ahead of other authors such as James White and his book "What Every Christian Needs to Know About the Qur'an."\If you want to really know about Islam, buy books from CP.

On the contrary, Islam’s Qur’an is riddled with clear irreconcilable information.Clearly this Author demonstrates, irrefutably, Islam, historically is not only false, but somewhat ludricous.Islam has very serious questions to answer and having checked every single reference, and source provided by this author, I came away thinking “WOW!”No holds barred no pulling back punches, he gets to business immediately in the first chapter.I won’t give you a spoiler alert, but the information given in this book is simply unheard of. Who would have guessed the true meaning of Arabic in Qur’an is just fantastic beyond belief. I would recommend anyone who wants to know the Truth, but does not have 30 years to search and study it, to read this book, as it’s an eye opener.

I always wondered why there is no ethics in islamic culture and this answers all questions of who Allah is. Author is very knowledgeable and detailed. Would highly recommend this book.

I purchased this for Kindle...discovered its...An absolutely timeless narrative about Islam..This is not a fluff piece but the gritty truth of what the Koranic verses state. It isn't a book about opinions, but verifiable resources which are also listed. I am not finished yet...so why the review? Because whether finished or not...I already know I will come back to this book over and over again as a powerful reference. When I'm done with this one I will be getting another by this author!

The author talk about the real meaning of the verses.As he translate each words written in Arabic to English.Using the Google and Quranicdictionaries,including his own understandings.Because the author was an Arab.

This man knows an awful lot about Islam, having a Sharia law degree. His knowledge has put to silence many Muslims "scholars", as well as helping those who truly seek truth. If you want to know the truth about Islam, this is the book to buy. Worth every penny.

I usually read the book before I watch the movie, but this time I didn't.As soon as I finished watching the 2015 movie “The Big Short,” I immediately decided to read Michael Lewis’ book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine,” which forms the basis for the film. Lewis, who was himself a Wall Street bond trader in the 1980s and 90s, is the author of several non-fiction books, many of them dealing with the world of finance.“The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine” isn’t so much “about” the financial crisis as it is about what caused the meltdown in the first place. Lewis tells his story through the actions of four separate investment groups: Scion Capital; managed by Dr. Michael Burry; FrontPoint Partners LLC, led by Steve Eisman; Cornwall Capital, co-managed by James Mai and Charlie Ledley; and Greg Lippmann, a bond trader with Deutsche Bank. These investors, each working independently from each other, correctly foresaw the collapse of the housing markets in the United States in 2007. Nobody else saw it – or wanted to, for that matter.For years, many of the world’s biggest investment and commercial banks had been investing heavily in high-risk subprime mortgages. This caused housing prices to rise, and a “housing bubble” to form. But soon, variable interest rates on these mortgages would begin to rise sharply, and massive numbers of people with little or no income would begin to default on mortgages they could no longer afford. Our four investors each decided to “sell short” the housing markets by investing in “credit default swaps” – a form of insurance against mortgage defaults. They essentially were betting against the housing markets: when (not if) the housing markets failed, the investors would end up making millions…“The Big Short” is a very well written book. It’s fast-paced, easy to read, and short (less than 300 pages). Michael Lewis’ story is very much character-driven. His profiles of the main players are surprisingly detailed, brutally honest, and fascinating. Some people who start out looking like villains end up as quite heroic and admirable figures. Others do not fare so well.One of the things Michael Lewis does best is explain many of the technical aspects of the financial system in a manner that I could easily understand. Although I’m sure “mortgage backed securities,” “credit default swaps,” and “collateral debt obligations” are probably a lot more complicated than even Lewis presents them, I found his explanations simple, straightforward, and very useful. As a result, I gained a better knowledge of the financial crisis.“The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine” is a very informative and entertaining book. For those looking to understand the basics of the 2008 financial crisis, this is one very good place to start. Highly recommended.

Clever and intriguing with a real from the street feeling as the writer, Michael Lewis tells the story from the viewpoints of several critical, but lesser known “main players” who saw and actively partook in the Wall Street madness. Lewis spent several years on wall Street- straight outta college and he understands the games played, his earlier book “Liar’s poker” dug into this –covering the 1980’ “Greed is Good” fever. ( I will be reading that book sometime in the future). What I took away from this book is that the reason the Bush and Obama administrations did not punish these big firms and their CEOs more is that (besides the corporate money influence standing in the way), the Wall Street bond “rabbit hole” is so deep that if you pull hard enough on one firm- they would collapse and as their bonds collapse- it would pull down one firm after another as they have all bet against each other’s bonds so heavily, resulting in a colossal financial collapse. What is perplexing is why Washington gave so much of the tax payer’s money to Goldman Sachs and to Citigroup.One warning I will share is that the language is this book goes beyond “Salty”. It was if the film “Serpico” was filmed in a bank’s conference room. The reader may be offended.

Interesting work on drugs and anxiety during the early part of the Cold War. I learned so much from this book and it definitely got me thinking about other avenues in my own research.

A long time user of minor tranquilizers myself, and an advocate of infrequent, though never daily, benzodiazepine use (currently prescribed Valium, though previously experienced with Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax and Librium) I found this book of great personal interest. It is well researched and generally entertaining, if a bit dry at times. The history of minor tranquilizers is a fascinating one and the author of this book does it great justice. I was particularly interested in the details of the Miltown craze, a drug of once universal popularity now relegated almost entirely to the chambers of history. Whether your interest is casual or scholarly, by all means pick up this book.

An academic historian, Andrea Tone looks at the history behind anxiety and the tranquilizers used to calm it. Other books also look at how Americans use a lot of drugs like antidepressants and tranquilizers to improve their lives rather than fight a physical illness. But those authors typically push their own view on the subject. A good historian, Tone does not.Indeed, it's hard to know what Tone herself thinks about tranquilizers. That's good. We readers can learn the history and make a judgment for ourselves. Tone starts with a look at hundreds of years of history of mental disorders, and how anxiety played its role in that history. Then she lays out the history of the first tranquilizer, Miltown, and how it fit in with the society that took it up with such enthusiasm.Tone ends with the backlash against tranquilizers. As society continued to change, many found that the drugs could bite instead of comfort. Instant gratification came with a price, it seemed. A price many found too high to pay.The Age of Anxiety is not a perfect book. It turns a bit tedious at times. Not a book that was hard to put down, it was instead occasionally hard to pick up again. That said, I did find myself drawn back into the story, wanting to know what happened next.Many interesting glimpses into social history come out of the Age of Anxiety. Some I had known, but forgotten. For instance, how heavily the threat of nuclear war hung over the America of the 1950s and 1960s. That was a worry that even I had as a young child in that era. Tone points out that in 1959 two-thirds of American adults said in a poll that nuclear war was the issue that concerned them the most.Other glimpses I did not know. Tone says that medical records show that President John F. Kennedy used tranquilizers, among several other drugs for pain and disease. Milton Berle used the first tranquilizer Miltown, joking that his name should be "Miltown" Berle, and promoted it heavily.For me, the pleasure in the book was the history, told as stories of people's lives, especially scientists Frank Berger (inventor of Miltown) and Leo Sternbach (inventor of Librium and Valium). But also former First Lady Betty Ford's struggle with drug addiction, and that of Barbara Gordon (author of the troubling but entrancing book I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can). The stories make the book.The Age of Anxiety delivers more than just reading pleasure. It traces the drugmaking industry from its early poverty to its current top rank in profitability among industries. That thread weaves together with science and social history to make a thought-provoking fabric. Tone does not single out any heroes or villains. Nor does she say whether these drugs are a dream or a nightmare.But any reader will think about those questions as Tone unfolds her story. That makes The Age of Anxiety a valuable book as we as a society face the troubles every age brings.

Good book, well written.

The critic is right, it doesn't cover a lot of in depth stuff, but it's a great basic book talking about how these systems work. If you're new to fuel injection and need to know what all those sensors do and how they work, this is a good book. If you need info on plenum design, this book is way under your level.Still a great primer though.

First, this book is a bit out of date... 10 years old now. The author talks of many "current" technologies, but explanations and comparisons of the products are limited at best. There is a lot of emphasis on converting carburated engines to fuel injection, but only specific examples are given when it comes right down to it, leaving many people and possibilities out in the cold.For those wishing to derive their own fuel-injection systems, this may be a good starter book, but leaves the reader with more questions than answers. It looks at converting a large cross-section of cars and trucks in the case-studies section, but only gives a general overview of the processes, with no real technical data to back them up or explorations of other options, which would be very helpful.

For the "Do-It-Yourself" custom engine builder, this book is of little use. Unless you own a car with one of the EFI systems discussed within it's pages, you are out of luck. There is no talk of tuned plenum/runner design, scratch-built custom applications, or carb conversions. Even the mention of forced induction is merely in passing as another option to explore, but is not expounded upon. In short, if you've got a 5.0 Ford or a Chevy TPI this book is for you. Other folks should keep on walking.

This gave me a lot of information that really lead me to no real scholarships. Seems I just receive a lot of advertisement now. Altho the book was inspirational and got me motivated to get scholarships. But I found more leads that panned out by asking the local colleges.

It's decent for the price. I'm sure there are better books out there on the subject, but it was inexpensive on Kindle, so, worth it.

Ok secrets, there are many out there that were not mentioned. The author really must renew his publication and update it. Maybe more parents would be interested in these hard times.

This book was recommended by Susie Orman. I found it to be a quick and easy read. It provides a number of statistical comparisons and suggestions of interest when applying for scholarships. It helped me organize my thoughts and clarified how much competition there is for the same dollars and how to best position myself. This book would be especially important for a high school senior but all students could benefit from it's teachings. I would recommend it.

My son will be a junior next year in high school and has ambitious plans to attend prestigious schools and become a doctor !!! Good for him but lot of money from me. Scholarships are one good way to offset costs. I was watching CNN program where the author was interviewed and appeared to be knowledgeable about many aspects of the scholarships.So went to Barnes and Nobles and found it to be too expensive. Bought the same here on Amazon for half the price.Book itself I was hoping will be an eye opener reg. some of the information for an parent that has been educated out of this country like me. Thus it is a challenge to be able to guide children.Though this books does give some pointers, I have found the material is largely contained in many of the guides that you get from colleges. Author directs readers to register on the on-line site he has and mostly this book concentrates in that aspect.I would give this book an "Okay" rating. If you are a total novice, then it makes for an interesting reading.

I was a little disappointed in this book because I thought it was going to be secrets and it was a lot of common sense things. Yes there were a few things I did not know but still not what I thought.

Great Book. Great ideas. Easy to comply with what the author is saying. I learned some new tips that I hadnt before.

I wish the book were larger with examples of essays, etc. Good advice given for where to look for scholarships.
