Where the prequel was about Granny Dru, this book is about young Dru. And someone may have murdered Granny… Oh my. And young Dru never knew her, never knew she’s a powerful witch. This was done in order to protect her. But leaves her clueless now.It was a fun read. Very entertaining! Light-hearted just the way I like it. Read the prequel first, although you COULD read this as a standalone, it’s just more fun to read it first.

This was a wonderful read. Lots of twists and turns that keep you wanting more. I read it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. Was fun to meet Dru and the other characters. Blackwood Bay appears to be a very enchanting city. I am looking forward to the next adventure. You won't be disappointed in this first book in this series.

Very good light read. I plan to read more by this author. No profanity and good clean cozy. Read this stand alone book in progressing series.

Dru Davis, short for Drusilla Rathmore Davis, is on her way to Blackwood Bay to claim an inheritance from a grandmother she never knew. (Get the prequel novelette, "On A Witch and A Spell" which explains this and is also exxcellent). On her way, she has managed to have 2 cars stolen and her rental car suffers a flat tire a ways outside of town. Luckily for her, along comes her knight in shining armor. Wolf Harper, a super hot cop, who is more than happy to put on her spare tire and would love to get acquainted. Dru, on the other hand, has had it with males after catching her fiance' with her best friend. After expressing her thanks, Dru makes her way into the little town of Blackwood Bay to check out the unique bookstore she has just inherited. But not all is what it seems. When she enters the bookstore, a young woman greets her and then 2 older women come in the door behind Dru. Another younger woman comes from another part of the store. The 2nd younger woman introduces herself as Heather, and apologizes for not hearing her come in and the 2 older women introduce themselves as Dorothy and Minnie explaining they were 2 of Drusilla's, Dru's namesake and grandmother, oldest friends. Dru had said that was okay because the other young woman had greeted her. All 3 looked around and asked who she was referring to. Trixie, the young woman, explained that they couldn't see or hear her only Dru could. She laughed and the 3 other women stared at her. Minnie said she must have the gift. Dorothy. seeing the perplexed look, explained that they were witches as was her grandmother and so was Dru. Dru, who doesn't believe in such nonsense, just looked at them like they had lost their minds. Then, the door to bookstore opens and in walks another woman claiming to be Drusilla Davis, the rightful heir to the bookstore. Dru is staring at everyone wondering what is going on in this little town and what has she gotten herself involved in. As Dru is taking all this in, another bombshell is dropped. Her grandmother didn't die of natural causes and they just found the body of the young woman that Dru was somehow talking to that no one else could see. There seems to be something evil lurking in this little town and Dru is determined to get to the bottom of it.I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the next one in this series. I really recommend that you get the prequel "On A Witch and A Spell" because not only is it great but also explains "Granny".

Blackwood Bay is one magic filled little town its also has a rising crime rate but i didn't know what was coming my way when I got the call from my grandmother's lawyer now i do my names Dru and my preconceived ideas about myself have just blown up in my face. I just thought my cheating ex fiance was the worst thing i would have to deal with. And it all started with a phone call. Now I've had my rental car stolen twice im hot and iritated and i have a flat tire its if the fates are conspiring against me but things have definitely taken a turn for the beter in the form of a very cute detective (Wolf Harper) who has helped me with my flat tire. Now if i didnt look as flat as my tire. I just thought things were looking up after the tire issue now theres some very weird things going on not to mention and imposter and a group of very talented lady's also there's a little matter of dead bodies and some magic happenings. Im finding that small towns are not boring and there not slow and now i have to learn a whole new set of skills and not the detective ones im used too. My names Dru i'll solve this thing if its the last thing i do and maybe i'll learn a whole new set of tricks while im at it. This book is wonderfully funny, quirky and kerps you wondering whats going on here and who comited the crime. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review I have also pre-ordered a copy too.

A terrific read but one main point of criticism -Chapter 15 should have either been Chapter 1 or left out altogether as in the flow of the story it really didn't meld. The plot was a good one but the heroine is a bit slow on the uptake. However even though I had guessed the culprit there were still a few twists. The characters are solid from dead granny who is feisty and a bit full of herself to the naive, overwhelmed and slow heroine. When she receives a call from a lawyer that her grandma had died and had left her her bookshop, she makes the long trip with her cat. Okay getting one car stolen is bad but two. Then to top it of once she arrives it is to see ghosts and to be told that she's a witch. However it spirals out of control when she finds out her Gran was murdered as was the young employee who used to work there. Now with only one left to show her the ropes she tries to learn magic and uncover who did away with the two women. Luckily the handsome police officer is around to lend a hand. Another dead body, a fake claimant and people wanting to buy the store only add to the confusion. Can the killer be stopped from any further murders? Can they catch/unmask the killer?
