Chris Scarre is Professor of Archaeology at Durham University. He is a specialist in European prehistory, but has broad interests in the archaeology of other regions of the world. Textbook is in perfect condition, and it arrived before classes started, which was amazing, because that is something I am always worried about, regardless of what the "expected arrival" date is.Plus, the layout of the textbook is very easy to follow, and it is organized very well. I've used a lot of textbooks for my anthropology courses that are all over the place with the organization, or the image-to-text balance is disappointing. This one is very easily read, and it has an aesthetically pleasing balance to it--so you're not just slogging through awkward and dry chunks of text.
It is very dense and hard to read, good luck
The first half of the book (covering up to about 50000BC) reads like a dictionary of archaeological sites, which makes it frustrating to read. However, the author(s) are so thorough that I can't imagine there is much on the topic of Anthropology that you couldn't find in this book.
Fantastic textbook. Although a multi-authored book, there is clear homogeneity in the presentation of the various chapters. The illustrations are really beautiful, it is almost an art book. It is a must have for who is interested in archaeology. It spans a period of several millions years. All the major archaeological sites are described, I recommend really to buy the latest edition, although older editions are available at discount price. The latest developments, like the sequencing of neanderthal DNA and others are discussed in this new edition and this is fascinating. Archaeology is really a science on the move.
Bought this book for a class on World Archaeology. As an anthropologist I was intrigued by it, but there was way too much fluff. Could definitely have been condensed and edited better.
