He was just coming out in the music business pretty good and headlining at one of the casinos in Biloxi. I had gone down to the just plain old buffet to eat and there he was. I'm not even sure why I knew his name. I was in front of him and turned around and I said "You're Blake Shelton". He smiled a sweet grin and said yes ma'am. I said, "You sure are a tall drink a water aren't you?" He said and you sure have on alot of diamond rings. I said "naaww they're just cz's" He said, " Ma'am, I don't mean to be rude, but from where I come from you can't pull the wool over my eyes". I started to pay for my dinner and he said I have that. I said you don't have to do that and he said you've been nice, you haven't asked for my autograph and you made polite conversation and I appreciated every minute of it. So I went to see his show and was blown away.The man has heart. He pours his soul into every song he sings and he means it. You can see it in his eyes and he enjoys what he does. I have bought everything he's put out and haven't been disappointed once. Neither will you.

I went to my first Blake Shelton concert while on vacation in Calgary, Canada. I didn't know any of his music but have seen him on The Voice. (One of my friends booked the concert and is a huge fan.) It was his first time performing at the Stampede and he played almost every song on this CD. He's a great performer and knowing these songs was great!

I LOVE Blake Shelton and was very excited to get this for my record player. I ordered this 2 times and both times the album skipped non-stop. I was very upset, but when comparing it with my other vinyl records, this one is very flimsy which could be why it is not working. I will have to purchase this at a store for better quality perhaps? I have never written a review, but after 2 purchases and it not working, I thought I should let others know.

I was born and raised in WVA. Country music was all there was on the radio. Then - I hated it and couldn't bare to listen. I turned to rock and roll. Recently today's new country has given me new found greater satisfaction. Country is all about the lyric's and Blake Shelton's work here is tremendous. Blake is an extremely talented artist. I wouldn't describe it as moaning Lisa but it's close!! If you like Kenny Chseney and Luke Bryan you will like Blake - they complement each other. Best of the best. This collection speaks for itself. Go get-em Blake!

I'll admit. I didn't listen to Blake much until The Voice...or so I thought. I bought this album and was surprised at so many songs I've heard before and really liked, but didn't even know it was him. Songs like Some Beach, Home (the reason I bought this album - I didn't even know it was him singing but have loved it ever since it came out on the radio), Ol' Red...would probably end up listing most of them. If you like Blake Shelton, this is a must buy. But now I'm wondering if I should just buy all of them. He has such a great voice that it's hard not to like most of his songs.

If you enjoy the music of Blake Shelton, you will love this Cd. It has all my favorite songs on it ,and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Blake Shelton,and Country music.I can't stop listening to it, especially "Some Beach ,Some Where!"

I don't like Blake Shelton as much as I thought I would - based on his songs on "The Voice."

Can't stop singing these songs. It is a must have. I was not familiar with Blake before I bought this I just remembered the song Home, but it is packed with hits I love it

Through the real and raw stories of his own pain, and that of his family, Nate invites you into a journey of wonder- where is God. In a world where suffering is to be avoided or numbed we are invited instead to walk in community into the chaos, trusting in the God who meets us there in the person of Jesus, who himself met us in our suffering: God with us.

A very well written book that keeps the "Christian-ese" at a bare minimum so that anyone can understand. There was so much that we could relate to and had questioned ourselves. We are not alone. God is with us when we have more that we can handle!

This book encourages us how to stay strong when we feel doubt and down in our life. The author felt like that sometimes and shares what we learned with us.Someone wrote on the barracks wall of Auschwitz this " There is Grace, though and wander , on the way, Only they are hard to see, hard to embrace,for those compelled to wander in the darkness". This is a book about finding God and Grace as we wander in a darkness that is more than we can handle. It's about the moments when we're so overwhelmed that we wander direction less towards unknown destinations. It's about those times when we wonder if the God who promises to guide us had run far ahead and left us behind to stumble in the darkness on our own.On page 26 it says " Your pain is real. Your suffering is legitimate. What you are facing is more than you can handle. " On page 35 it says " Paul- the one who was shipwrecked for the sake of the Gospel, whose faith was so strong that people were healed when they touched rags he used to wipe his brow, who converted guards while in jail, who brazeingly stood before rulers and confessed Jesus as Lord, said he despaired of life. He didn't just have a bad day. The pain was too great. He wanted to give up. He considered abandoning everything because it no longer seemed worth the struggle. It is when we are at our frailest that Christ's power can rest on us. When we can no longer keep going. When we're empty. Confused. Exhausted. "On page 75 it says " Suffering is a reality whenever our ability to flourish is stolen from us. There is an unspoken pressure to dance, smile, and thank God for his faithfulness. This is what good Christians do, isn't it?On page 89 he asks" Why was the temptation to be like God so compelling to Eve? Is it because the anxiety and fear of not knowing what tomorrow would bring subtly gnawed at her just before she fell asleep. "On page 132 it says " What kind of God demands that action as a test of faith? What kind of God forces the the choices between the God who promised you an unimaginable legacy or the son you prayed for. Even if it was all a simple test, it is cruel in the highest sense."On page 167 it says " the one young child too light to quickly expedite his own death hung at the end of the rope for a hellish amount of time. He remained for more than a half an hour , lingering between life and death. We were forced to look at him at close range. For God's sake, where is God? "On page 179 it says " God doesn't doesn't just offer a cure. God brings wholeness. Jesus didn't stop Peter from disowning him, but he did restore him. Jesus didn't end Mary's pain as she watched her son die, but he did see that was cared for. " On page 189 it says " our heavenly father adopts us as sons and daughters, and he wraps his robe around iur shoulders ."Disclosure of Material Connection. I agree with the other reviewer, this book certainly didn't showcase "wild" mosaics. There are good basic tips on how to do mosaics but the actual projects are just so so....nothing exciting. I really can't recommend this book,the author seems like a nice person but this book isn't a must have by any means,

There are some good ideas in this book. Off the wall type projects but good stuff.

This is just another "beginner" book - though a bit above average for that category. From the title, I was expecting maybe at least one unique idea for inspiration, so that was a disappointment.

I am new to the art of mosaics and found this book creative and interesting. It is definitely a beginner book but I believe it should be purchased with a basic technique book like The Practical Guide To Crafting With Mosaics by Simona Hill. I hope to replicate some of the projects and use the author's other ideas as a springboard to create my own designs. I found the Majestic Roses mirror project to be simply beautiful as well as the You Are My Sunshine picture frame. I can understand why more experienced crafters might not have liked the ideas in this book, I'm sure they have created many similiar projects; but I think there are some wonderful ideas for beginners.

I love the cover of this book and if the book would have contained more of what the cover projects it would have been great. Poor choice of projects and very boring. I would not recommend this book

This book would be helpful for beginners who want quick easy projects that they want to make to keep or for a quick gift. Not for serious artists that are into the history and materials for more advanced projects.

Also, the less romantic bits like eating on the run, handling mud, and where to pee.One thing that might be misleading to some - this guide is exclusively oriented to trail unltrarunning. Wait, that's not right. It's exclusively oriented to trail racing.It does not include any ultra road races or 12/24/48 hour events and the unique challenges they pose. If you are intending to try one of those events, you'll need to seek some advice outside the scope of the Field Guide to Ultrarunning.The book is geared towards ultra-racing more than simply ultrarunning but the principles remain. The cool part about ultrarunning is you really don't need permission or a race entry to go someplace awesome to run. If you've built out the body to handle it and learned how to handle the trails, you have all you need to do an ultra-run, even if you never do an ultra-race.One pleasant element of the book was Koerner's willingness to use his mistakes as object lessons for the rest of us to learn from. I've maintained that the guy or woman who wins the race isn't always the best runner but the one who makes the least mistakes.Using the real life examples, Koerner does a nice job of showing the results of bad decision-making and, sometimes, just plain bad luck. He offers good advice on how to handle it. When you get to that part of the book, listen. It may save your ultrarunning career.If you're a marathoner looking to move up, this is a book that should land on your book shelf and be referred to frequently. If you never conceive of doing anything so foolish as an ultra, it's probably not for you.If you're on the fence, though, get the book. Hal Koerner will lead you through the process, show you it's achievable, and put the tools in your hand to get there.Once you have the tools, it's up to you to go out and find the poetry on the trail.

3 stars...or 5, depending on what you want from this book.This book is an insight into Hal Koerner's approach to ultrarunning. In that sense, it is aptly titled. You'll read about Hal's thoughts, practices, challenges, and even his playlists. It is not so much a guide for ultrarunning in general but for *Hal's way* of ultrarunning. That said, let us not forget that Hal Koerner is one of the most successful ultrarunners of his generation. Hal's way works, clearly. And, by all accounts, he is a true sportsman and gentleman. And so I found myself reading as much to learn things about ultrarunning as I did to learn about Hal and what makes him tick as a runner. In that sense, I would have liked him to go deeper, both into his own motivations, challenges, how he creates meaning beyond competition, etc. (though, to be fair, that may be better suited for a autobiography sort of thing), as well as going deeper into the how & why his training plans are what they are, i.e. what science or experience are behind them.But, while I am an experienced road marathon runner, I am new to ultrarunning. For my needs, I found Byron's book to be of better assistance. But I am a fan of Hal, and I did learn a few things from this book. I enjoyed it.It is worth a read so long as you know what you are reading. If you want a definitive intro to the sport, this may not be the best option. But if you know/admire/respect Hal Koerner's accomplishments as a runner and want to learn from his method, this is your read.

I found Hal Koerner's writing style to be engaging and the coverage of ultra running topics well sequenced and developed. Training included a discussion of over training and the nutrition and gear chapters included a wide range of insights. Hal included several lessons that he learned the hard way in races and it is this kind of realism that gave the book its soul. I've also read Running Your First Ultra by Krissy Moehl and I found Field Guide to have perhaps three times as much depth (text) in part because Hal doesn't include pictures (Krissy's pictures are very nice) and his training plans are about 6 pages compared to about 115 for Running Your First Ultra. While I read the book version I would think the Kindle version would be fine as there are few tables and virtually no pictures.

I'll echo how some others have reviewed the book, in that it's pretty light on content. I've run 10+ marathons, but am new to ultra and trail running, and the book didn't add all that much to my knowledge base. There were definitely a few new things, but not as much info as I would have thought skimming the table of contents. It's as though Hal thought (or was told by the publisher) that he should include a section on XYZ, and so a few paragraphs with some genera/random thoughts were written just to make for a robust-looking TOC. Most of the info seems anecdotal, which is fine if this were a memoir or personal story. But it's marketed as a field guide, so I was expecting more in-depth and fact-based information.

Sadly, there are not a lot of books out there for ultradistance training, so I bought this one and "Relentless Forward Progress." This book was the better of the two, easier and more straight forward to read. The other book felt a bit disjointed as it is more bits and pieces of the blog/website. The training plans are pretty straight forward. I think this book would be great for a first-timer such as myself to use as a reference guide as there are lots of nice little tips and tidbits about what to wear, eat, speedwork, etc. For someone that has completed several of these distances, probably not as useful. I like his running stories too, very insightful and open.
