This is one of the best reads i’ve had all year, for it paints an in depth picture of the pathology that afflicts our current Preidient, as described by a panel of psychiatrists and psychologists meeting at a Yale symposium. Indeed, I made a list of the personality disorders described for him and keep in on my phone; it’s a wonderful reference guide to explain the truly screwed up behavior Trump shows daily. Much of it is expected “e.g malignant narcissism” but also much to me is new (e.g “a present hedonist” who cares not what came before, or what will come after, but only about what’s happening now and how it affects him.)The rap on the book comes from academic physicians who cite the Goldwater rule, which says you shouldn’t diagnose a person’s pathology unless you’ve examined them directly. I’m an academic and can assure you otherwise. The contributors in the book take that argument on directly, and carefully qualify their diagnoses based upon the behavior they see from afar. They also argue that Trump is the most powerful person in the world with his finger on the nuclear button...understanding his pathology “trumps” all other concerns.History will reference this book when it analyzes Trump’s personality, pathology, and performance. I recommend it enthusiastically.

Most discerning Americans know Trump is a narcissist who mixes lies with delusion, slanders freely, and moment to moment must have the spotlight turned on him, even if it means, for example, undercutting his Secretary of State Tillerson and potentially dragging the world into a war in service to his ever-faltering self-esteem.Lee's book appears to have been written by among the best that psychiatry/psychology have to offer. The authors are deeply moral professionals who see through the glass clearly, something we don't get often enough from mental health professionals.What is most awesome about *The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump* is that most of what is written here rings true. The authors introduce concepts I was not familiar with such as those relating to Trump’s relationship with time. Unlike most of us who consider the future impact of our actions, Trump responds in the moment, to assuage his ego needs vs. thinking ahead about the harm his comments might cause. We are witness to his in-the-moment orientation in his attachment to Twitter. Some journalists and pundits have convinced themselves, and tried to convince us, that Trump’s Tweets and other interference's are strategic, meant to give him “wins”. The authors here confirm that this simply is not so. The delusion that Trump has some secret wisdom leaves us in danger of following Trump down the rabbit hole to our own destruction.Trump’s presidency is a threat to our democratic republic, our freedoms, our values, and for the spiritually-inclined, our very souls. I am grateful to these courageous authors for doing what they can to save America and the world from Trump’s toxicity. History will look kindly on them; they chose well. It is up to each of us to do what little we can to protect what we have here in an era of vulnerability as a deranged leader tears at the fabric of our nation in service of his emotional needs. It can only get worse.

You already know a lot about this book just from the title. What got my attention right away was that it's not written by one person like the vast majority of the books about Donald Trump. Instead, it is a collection of essays by 27 different psychology professionals, whether working psychologists or psychiatrists. These people are all highly trained and are so concerned about the mental health of the President of the United States that they are violating the spirit of the ethical guidance from their professional organizations--namely, not to analyze the mental health of someone you have never examined.What motivated the choice to make these insights public? This controversial decision is explained at the outset by Drs. Herman and Lee: "the public trust is also violated if the profession fails in its duty to alert the public when a person who holds the power of life and death over us all shows signs of clear, dangerous mental impairment." Given the power at his command, they feel that the mental health of the president should get at least as much scrutiny as that of other citizens. They have concluded that Donald Trump has a serious personality disorder and is a danger to the country. For that reason, they feel that they must honor their "duty to warn" the public of the danger he poses, (just as they have a professional "duty to warn" if a patient is a danger to himself or others.)Since the president appears unwilling to undergo a genuine physical examination--much less a mental health one--these professionals can give the public insights based on the unusually plentiful record of Donald Trump's public actions, comments and even tweets. As both candidate and president (and even during the decades before), Trump was someone who sought the limelight and whom the media found fascinating and worth extensive coverage. He was also very accessible, very quotable and much quoted. Although these psychologists have never examined him, they have a lot of real-time observations to work with, as well as so many available written interviews, articles and books, many in Trump's own words.They also feel that, as professionals, they can address some of the questions the public has about the behavior and comments of the president, including,"Is this unusual but normal? Or is it something that should make me worried, even afraid?"You know the answers these authors all reach from the title. But they each take a different focus in their individual chapters. Here's a sample: "Unbridled and Extreme Present Hedonism", "Pathological Narcissism and Politics: A Lethal Mix"; "Sociopathy"; "Donald Trump: Is (a) Bad, (B) Mad, (C) All of the Above)"; "Why 'Crazy Like a Fox' versus 'Crazy Like a Crazy' Really Matters' 'Cognitive Impairment, Dementia and POTUS"; and so on.Some psychologists write about the effect of a president like this on the American public. "How a President Freezes Healing and Promotes Crisis", "In Relationship with an Abusive President', and "Who Goes Trump?Tyranny as a Triumph of Narcissism".There is also a chapter about the 25th amendment. And a conclusion by Noam Chomsky. One non-psychologist who provides an interesting chapter is Tony Schwartz, who wrote The Art of the Deal with Trump. In 2016 Schwartz donated his help to the Clinton campaign for free as "penance" for writing the book that brought Trump to the public attention and helped mythologize him. It's something Schwartz has regretted ever since, even donating the 2015-2016 proceeds from it to charity. Schwartz's chapter is titled, "I Wrote The Art of the Deal with Donald Trump: His Self-Sabotage Is Rooted in His Past" and considers his strict father and early life somehow gave him the idea that everything in life is either a success or a failure--and he can't accept failure.)The writers have different styles, but generally include a wealth of real-life examples and write in a way that avoids jargon. On the face of it, it would seem that Trump's supporters wouldn't want to have anything to do with this book. However, it's not a left-wing hatchet job; it's professional psychologists analyzing the President of the United States in his actions and comments. If anything, it seems more important for his supporters to read and think about all this than it would be for his critics (even if Trump supporters wind up rejecting its conclusions, they'll be well-informed on why so many people feel that way). Being a cradle Catholic, Mary was always a presence in my life. But for all the pretty porcelain statues, I never exactly felt I could relate to her. I could respect that she was the mother of our Lord, but how could I possibly relate to a woman who was born perfect who I had no chance of realistically becoming similar to? Imagine my surprise when one of the women in the book asked the very same question! By taking a nice cross-section of women---various cultural backgrounds, ages and religious fervor--you see that Mary is universal and can offer something unique and personal to whoever approaches her in prayer. There were times when I did cry at some of the points made. One or two of them spoke directly to me in terms of things I'd been praying about but never shared with anyone else. I'm not a mom, so how could I relate to her raising Jesus then following Him to His destiny on Calvary? But the writer makes the point that even those who are childless can act maternally to anyone we come across in a day's time and in essence, bring Christ into the world again. Never thought of it that way! It's not a long book or one with any theological concepts too lofty or sublime. Just some women talking about "our tainted nature's solitary boast" in very real terms. She's not only with the saints in Heaven, but in her maternal love for us, reaches out to us to bring our hearts and minds not to her, but to her Son. What a comforting thought! You will definitely enjoy this book and I know I will be going back to it again and again.

I am not a Catholic, but I have a passion for spiritual books, and Moyer's Mary and Me has earned a permanent place on my "inspiration" shelf.While solidly based in the Catholic faith tradition, the book does not have a theological agenda. Moyer fully and clearly explains spiritual terms and Biblical stories, making the book accessible to a wide range of readers. Her language is fresh and lively and the personal stories are moving; in fact, I couldn't put the book down and read it in one sitting.Moyer has asked an honest question of real women: "What has Mary meant to you?" She has not used the interviews to argue a point; rather, she has gathered the stories, listened to their messages, and let the stories themselves decide the structure, form, and message of the book.The Mary that emerges is rich and complex. The Mary that women come to know through the challenges, traumas, and joys of their lives is not the beatific image of the Renaissance portraits. As one women says, "She is a strong-willed, courageous women who defied convention and did the will of God." Another says, "Mary was a human being, a real women, a mother and a mother who suffered the ultimate loss."The women who Moyer interviews share their most intimate stories: abusive parents, career crises, health issues, lost loves. I really enjoyed the stories in this book. It would be a great gift for friends. It’s also a nice, easy read and very relatable.

Maybe Mary and Me won't be your cup of tea. Maybe you don't even really "get" the whole Mary thing...and you'd be in good company. This book is filled with reflections and insights from Catholic women, some of whom weren't always big fans of Mary. The author herself shares some reflections that had me laughing and grabbing the tissues.In my world, there's a huge value to things that make me consider life differently. I don't always agree with the things that force my different perspective, but I do value them. It's one of the reasons why I so value my relationships with the friends in my life I can disagree with without the tingling in my scalp that signals anger and frustration.I found this sort of value in Mary and Me. I also found new insight into the role of the Blessed Mother in my own life.Consider suffering, for example - I often turn to Mary when I'm in pain, but I have only ever been able to articulate it vaguely. "Well, she was at the foot of the Cross," I'll reason in my head...and though I know that wasn't an easy thing to do, it seems sort of lame.This book is one I'll lend out, though, be assured I'll be keeping track of who has it, because I know I'll be turning back to it. It's also the sort of book I'll be purchasing for friends...because I can think of quite a few women who need the wisdom, comfort, and insight that's included. This book has been a delightful read. It is well written with great insight into other cultures, especially children moving to America leaving all that is familiar, including family and friends. Here, in a country lacking the background of war, yet they fear the police. Outcasts United reminds us hosting spoiled some American children can be, not having suffered the trials of death and war. Yet, there are good people in America who want to help make the transition for these young esters more pleasant. That is what America is all about.

I ordered this for my 12-year-old grandson, but I read it first and definitely recommend it. It is a great education concerning young people in other parts of the world, and about these refugees and their specific struggles after they are relocated to America. Since we live in Georgia, it is particularly interesting to know many refugees are relocated to Clarkston, GA, which is fewer than 75 miles from us. This is well-written, factual, and calls us to be of assistance!

Really enjoyed learning about the early days (relatively-speaking) of refugees being settled in the US. And what an inspiring story as she realized the boys needed something to keep them off the streets, a reason to make good choices, the opportunities that tutoring would open for them...all if they had the incentive of being able to play soccer.

I liked the story that it is people helping people with nothing required in return. It gives an understanding of how refugees believe that America is going to solve their every problem not understanding that you still have to work hard and learn our language. It also proves that rules and structure is wanted and needed in all dealings. A good book!

A great story of real life. Successes and failures in the real world. A coach who expected players to give their all and have fun. Good sportsmanship and respect of self and others can be missing when beating the other team is paramount. This is a thought provoking story at many levels.

Good book. If you’re buying this for school, this is not the edition you have to buy, just warning you. It’s a different edition for school.

Liked it a lot - gave a good picture of what refugees go through when moving to the US. It was one of my Book Club selections and the discussion was lively and enlightening as we have a few members were are not American born. If you take nothing else away from reading this, it is to be more patient and tolerant when interacting with someone whose English isn't as good as yours.

Purchased this copy for my little brother who was doing a report on a nonfiction book. I read the original story for a college class and knew he would love it but that it might be too much for him to read in a short time. I bought this copy and thought it did a great job of presenting itself to younger audiences.

Another origin story for another character from the main series. This time it is Vlad, the Russian weapons engineer.There's a bit of touching backstory at the beginning, which kinda has a huge flaw, but serves as a way to create emotional motivation for the main character (MC). The use of this hook is done well and the first 15% of the story, though super light on RPG stuff is probably my favorite part of the story since it’s the most original.However, past that point things just aren’t surprising because they involve the main plot of the VGO series and if you’ve read that, then what happens in this story won’t really be a surprise. Questions like: Will Ina survive this fight? When will Vlad meet Grim Jack? Will Vlad fix the cannons in time? Or will the good guys win a fight? All those things are supposed to be places of tension, but they’re not. Because if you’ve read the main VGO series, you already have the answers to all the big plot questions. There is new material that tells you about the MCs class, how he uses his abilities and real world knowledge to craft, and some small adventures. But it wasn’t enough to push the story into good for me. It’s not bad by any means, it just didn’t hit good for me either because there weren’t any real surprises in the story.Score: 6 out of 10

Vindication follows Vlad’s story, the Alchemist we were introduced in the second book of the Viridian Gate Online series, Crimson Alliance.Vlad is a very likable character, and the way he is handled in this book is great. We get to see him lose everything to become one of the more interesting characters to come out of this world.You would be missing out on not picking up this book. It's a great addition, and its a super fun read!

So much so, that each story gives us unique characters and further insights on the goings-on inside the game’s realm.In Vindication, Vlad’s story is further expanded upon. This is a man who’s recently lost his wife. A man who’s had to contend with quite a few adversities, while doing everything possible to survive. The choices he’s made in the past have never been the right ones, yet never once has he deterred from the one thing that’s kept him going—his family’s happiness and well-being.Viridian Gate Online is a vast world. One where the last remaining citizens of earth go in order to ensure their own survival. A world where the choices you make determine the outcome of who you are and what you’ll be as time goes by.I can’t wait to see what else N. H. and James have in store for us. Vlad’s story is just beginning. It’s awesome to see how far he’s come in so short a time. The fact that we also get to meet and see more of already established characters from the initial series is also a bonus. I wonder what will become of Osmark’s empire once all is said and done. This book was written in a heavy-handed and shallow style. The author screwed with the main character in blatantly obvious attempts to force the character to follow the predefined story arc and garner sympathy from the readers. After an intriguing and decent start, I made it less than half way through the story in Viridian Gate before I became convinced that it wasn't going to get better. This book did nothing to add to the series, instead it detracts from the entire series. I would recommend that you give it a miss. I would also recommend that James Hunter is more careful with who he allows to write in his world or at least have a much heavier hand in editing the resulting story.

This was a good book and a great addition to the V.G.O. Universe. I think my favorite moments were when Vlad overloaded a steam pipe to knock someone out, and when he built a shadow cannon from scratch.

Though the MC is supposed to be an old world weary Russian weapons engineer, his mindset seems to be that of a younger and much more idealistic American scientist.

Was much better than what I had expected. I have always wanted a good crafting themed rpg book. Vlad is also a very likable character. Good combination.

Daughter likes this but reaches for green eggs and ham and what pet should I get several times a day.

My wife purchased this book for our Kindergartener after she (my daughter) had requested it. She had seen it in her school library and was very excited to show us how funny the idea of "hopping on pop" (on me!!) was and that she could read some of the words. After we got it, she found that she was able to read the whole thing all the way through. She was so surprised and proud of herself! If you want to build confidence in your child and develop a love for reading-this is a great book.The reason this is so great for an early reader is pretty genius! The book starts off easy enough, with a couple of rhyming phrases per page (like; HOP ON POP, etc.). As the story moves on, the rhyming words are replaced (sometimes only by changing out a letter-as in H-A-T to C-A-T).While a simple idea, it provides a great learning and reinforcement tool for your child that is twofold: (1) your child learns new words by "building" on a previously known word by having to change the initial sound to match the new letter on the rhyming word, and (2) by showing them the importance of letters and their placement in a word to change its sound.The book is never overly difficult, but rather, perfectly paced for an emerging or first time reader. And of course, true to Dr. Seuss fashion, the artwork is engaging, wonderful and funny all at the same time. This is by far, my daughter's favorite book at the moment and she won't hesitate to offer to "read the whole book" to anyone who is willing to listen! She is developing a real love of reading from this.If you are a "pop" or know of one with a new reader, this classic is just the ticket! Definitely a winner for our family.

I loved reading this book when I was young and was excited to introduce it to my child who is in the first stages of reading. My 4 year old can't read every word yet, only 3/4 letter words, but those can be found on almost every page so it keeps his mind going. It's also great that some of the sight words he'll need for kindergarten are incorporated so he'll have a head start for class in a couple of years. If you're looking for a story line, there isn't one, but I can say the wackiness is very entertaining. I read other reviews that have said that this version is a rewrite, however I didn't notice the differences. Maybe it's just been that long since I've read it. (Although I totally understand the frustrations of those who we're expecting original content.)

When I was a little girl, I use to beg my mom to read me this book. She did over and over again and it became the first book I learned to read as a pre-schooler. I read it to my children and they loved it just as much. This is a wonderful book to teach some reading skills. The illustrations keep children interested and the simple words and phonetics are perfect for young children who are pre readers or just learning to read.

I have a working theory that this book teaches kids to read. I know, it’s a bold statement. It really does help them gain confidence, and if you play the audiobook with it you don’t get tired of reading it. There are several C-V-C words so even very early readers can sound out some! I love this book!

This was my childrens' and grandchild's favorite book. But don't get the Kindle version. It places 2 pictures on one page and messes up the real reading experience. The book has a natural flow for better reading.

This is such a great product for the price. Hop on Pop is, of course, a classic. My two-year-old loves it, and it's made well enough that she isn't able to destroy it :)

Great book. I bought it for my niece's baby shower. It was the first book I remember reading from. That means it's been around a long time. Family favorite.

For my new grandson, one of my daughter's favorites for her dad(now deceased) to read at bedtime. Amazon is amazing. I found several old books that my husband & I loved as children, and one obscure board book I loved reading to my babies & toddlers.
